The 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America

The Atlantic.com published an article about the 10 most gangerous cities in America. In 2011, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported that, during the worst economic slowdown since the Great Depression, violent crime dropped 5.5% in 2010 and property crimes fell 2.8%. The reality however, does not look so positive.
Although most regions of the U.S. saw declines, the Northeast had an increase in murders (8.3%), forcible rapes (1.4%), and aggravated assaults (0.7%).
Why that region was affected by crime more than others isn't clear, though perhaps the poverty combined with high cost-of-living in many of the region's cities is a factor.
Below are the 10 most crime-plagued cities in the U.S. with populations of more than 100,000, with a measurement of crimes per thousand people.
