The uniqueness of the Sakhalin region begins with the fact that she is the only island region in Russia. The region occupies 59 islands, 56 of them - this is the Kuriles. Kuril Islands stretch from the southern tip of Kamchatka southwestward to Hokkaido Island and is a natural boundary between the Sea of Okhotsk and the Pacific Ocean.
